Description

Cute Chute was made for Ludum Dare 39, a game jam event that gives participants 48 hours to make a game based off a theme. The theme for this jam was ‘Running out of Power’.

I designed a simple game where the player must power their city by throwing cute friendly creatures into a bottomless pit. While on the surface, the concept might seem cruel, the game drops various hints to the player that there is more at play then meets the eye.

With it’s simple mechanics and twisted narrative, the game was extremely fun to make. On top of that, reading reviews of the game was even more satisfying. Some players took the game at surface level, while others explored the game a bit more and unlocked its true ending.

The game placed fairly well in the competition. With 988 entries, I placed highly in a few categories including:

  • 5th in Graphics
  • 6th in Humor
  • 45th in Mood
  • 74th Overall
